March 2003. Our Dabkah dancers participated in the International
Festival. Dabkah is a dance performed on weddings and other social
occasions in many Arab countries. Men and women, in arch form, move
their hands, feet, and hips to the music playing in the background.
November 2003. The council organized a Panel in memory of Edward
Said under the general theme "The Arab World and the West".
Our panelists were the two distinguished SIU professors Clarisse
Zimra and Badreldin Arfi. We played 20 minutes of interview with
Edward Said on the representation of Arab culture in American media.
The event attracted a widely diverse audience.
